spring onion seeds
in Fruit & veg
Hi. We've been trying to grow spring onions from seed since the spring, so far we have managed to sprout 1! We have tried them in a windowsill propagator, both covered and uncovered. I have read on here that others have had problems, but just wanted to ask, should we sow lots at a time and hope to get a few or give up on them?they are the only seeds we have tried so far that haven't worked and I don't like to be beaten!

Might do better outside.
In the sticks near Peterborough
Mine are doing fine indoors and outside along with the lettuce leaves. Both lots are 'Country Value' packets @ 80p from a local hardware shop so nothing fancy. I'm about to sow some more out of the same packets to add to the continuity.
I had similar problem this year. Direct sowings some in the garden and the allotment and nothing.
I've put it down to a bad batch and I will try again next year but will try them in modules to get them going first
I've had no problems, all bought from wilko onions everywhere.
I've also had problems. I may have sown the first lot a little to early. Sowed a second lot about 2-3 weeks ago and they are now 2-3 inches high, so doing alot better. Have also had a problem with beetroot this year.
