Half dead plum tree

  • Yes, NC, I was going to mention that there are several other annoying "suckers" that have been coming up for several years since the tree began to die. I was so clueless (until that arborist acquaintance came along) that I simply thought they were annoying weeds, Can I actually get the "new tree" out of the ground without killing it? I was actually going to try to save some money and ask my brother to help me cutting it down in the spring. It isn't what I'd call a huge tree. Only problem will be that neither of us has anything to get the stump out.

Can you offer some advice on this process?

    Thank you!

Hi Dovefromabove, thanks for the link, it was very informative but I don't think her plum tree is suffering from canker as she says the tree and fruit are good, it's just that most of the leaves have lots of tiny holes in them.

i suggested it could be the flea beetle but I'm no expert, what do you think?

Hi, found this thread while trying to figure out whether our tree is beyond saving. It's been at least 2 seasons without any significant leaves -- we have a ornamental/flowering plum tree. So I pruned off one major branch to get a closer look at the problems and this is what we're seeing.

Tree looks like it's rotting on the outside, black knots, lichen, and sections where the bark is missing.

We live in Vancouver, BC if that helps :)
