Tomato pest

There appears to be something laying tiny black eggs on the leaves of my tomatoes in the greenhouse which are turning into a grub/caterpillar, eating holes in the leaves and burrowing into the fruit, Ihad this last year but much later in the season. I have cut off the worst affected leaves and got rid off as many eggs as I can see and am spraying with a garlic solution. Any ideas what they could be and what to do about it?

  • Have been doing some searching and it is the tomato moth, shame to have to destroy the caterpillars as the moth is beautiful, but tomatoes come first, if  the one i pick off will go in the compost bin!

  • You can just move the caterpillars to another part of the garden, they will eat lots of other plants. It's called a Bright-Line Brown-Eye moth, they just have a rather fond taste of tomatoes. image
