Japanese blood grass

SupernoodleSupernoodle Posts: 954
Anyone know if I can grow japanese blood grass from seed? Can't see any anywhere so suspect not. I've got an idea which will need several plants but not sure how they'd do in my heavy soil. Would like to grow a load frond seed and see how they do. Otherwise I suppose I could buy a largish plant and divide?

Nope. That's the plant! I saw that earlier and was pleased too until the price alerted me to it being a plant.

Hi Snoodle. All those very red ones, 'Rubra', 'Red Baron' etc, are cultivars of Imperata cylindrica and may not seed as red or all the same.

..I don't think you can grow that from seed... I notice that's for 3 x 9cm plant pots for £16.99 which is really dear.... I bought a large container grown specimen for about £3 from my local nursery the other week and divided it into 7 straight away...

Ah, suspected as much, Nut. Thanks all. I'll just keep my eye for for a deal like Salino's then and divide.

@Maxine Winter how can someone sell seeds without germination instructions either on the packet or their website not from China via Amazon are they?
