Flies on my plum tree
My two year old plum tree, which has not borne any fruit yet is absolutely covered in a variety of flies varying from small 'fruit' flies to big blue bottles, also there are black sticky deposits on the leaves and the leaves themselves are dying at the ends.
Please help.

I've just found this from last year while googling 'blue bottles on plum tree'. Tonight mine had hundreds on, yes it has been attacked by aphids to year, as has much of my garden, I have never seen so many aphids. My Papaver Orientalis below it have finished flowering but the leaves are covered in the black soot like substance Pansy describes, is there anything I can do now, I have sprayed the tree this evening but is it too late to save the fruit?
