Blackfly and Vine Weevils

Has anyone else noted how prolific these two are this year? I have one nasturtium that is about dead due to both being apparent in its tub. The blackfly seem to have started on another and though I'm all for leaving things to nature's balance,I've stepped in and squished a lot. My fingers were thick with their goo.

I've had bucket loads of lupin aphids. I even took to spraying soap solution for the first time ever.

I'm going to say it vastly reduced them for a few days. It took about an hour to spray about 10 lupins as they were under almost every leaf. They ended up slathered all over my hands and arms. Then I watered them with collected washing up water to get all the ones that had dropped to the floor.

I snipped the last of the flower heads off too so the bees wouldn't be visiting.
