Here's a pic of the only ones left - the others were so horrible I cut the heads off. They have virtually no foliage and are on long, skinny stalks with no thorns except at the very bottom. The stalks all originate from a single spot in the ground - not a bushy shape at all.

Every time I move house I don't like the water. I think you get used to one and the rest aren't right.
and there's too much chlorine in all of them now.

Can you take a picture of the whole plant nibblets please, need to see more.
Here we go . . . first is the whole plant belonging to the picture previously posted. The second one is a lone straggler.
I don't think there's much hope for either. I do have a third one further down the garden - just as bad.
Looks as if they may have been visited by sawfly larvae
They also need some decent pruning next Feb/March.
