Spring primrose

I planted my primrose as tiny little plug plants last November, straight into the plot.  They grew well and flowered at the right time (spring).  But, they're still flowering and I thought they should have died back by now.  Is this normal?  I planted lynchess plants around March in the same plot and they don't seem to have grown much (they haven't grown where they had more space either!).

I think it's a funny old year Charley. I just noticed a native primula flowering the other day and I'd planted it about a month ago when it was looking a bit sorry for itself - we've not even had much rain and it's not been watered much so it must be a pretty tough one! I bought some polyanthus last year as a bargain in late spring - they never stopped flowering all summer and into autumn. Most Lychnis like well drained soil and a sunnier spot so if they're in the same site as your primrose it's possibly too damp and shady for them. There are some which like moister sites though.

Well, I guess I had better not complain at the sight of flowers, since sometimes they're a little lackingimage  The primrose and lynchnis are in a really sunny spot and well drained, in the same plot so maybe the lynchnis will take until next year to establish do you think?  I've got so many new plants because I've stripped and restocked our garden, so I'm never too sure what to expect!  It is very exciting though ... usually image

It's funny how some plants simply take longer - and it can be very frustrating! Unless there's an obvious reason for a plant not growing or thriving, ie disease or lack of water/nutrients etc,  it's often just a matter of time.

Patience is the most  difficult thing to achieve in gardening isn't it! image

My polyanthus and primroses are also having second blooms, which seems to happen every year in my garden. As one plants' flowers fade another comes into bloom so it's almost continuous.

Well that's good news.  Maybe then I take out the lynchis and let the primroses bloom in peace/1
