Hi I am new to gardening, I planted a cherry tree and an apple tree last year, this year i have planted a number of plants, but early this summer I noticed that my cherry trees leaves had gone all brown and crispy so I cut it right back down and it came back and the leaves are all nice dark green, but a few weeks ago I notice my apple tree had done the same. I didt want to cut it back but I have done. but now I have noticed that my clementis has now started to do the same does anyone know why this is happening all my other plants are in good condition even my roses are doing well which I thought would be hardest to keep please help.

Hi Jack23
It sounds as if these trees are suffering from lack of water. Trees and shrubs need a lot of water in their first few years, and sometimes throughout their lives, depending on conditions.
In the summer I would give a newly planted tree (ie a tree in it's first couple of years) at least a full bucket of water at least three times a week every week, even if it's rained recently.

Hi dovefromabove,
thanks for your help do you think the same goes for the clementis then my other clementis is doing fine I usually only water them if its been really hot or dry for a couple of days, I was starting to think some kind of dieases was spreading though my garden.
I'd give the clematis a good drink too - and maybe a dose of liquid fertiliser too - they're very hungry plants.

In the summer, it's not unusual to have to water garden plants twice a day. I water my plants in pots twice a day - and give them a real good drenching, not just a jugful, either....
