Bad Lawn
For years I have prided myself on my nice lawn which I feed and water often. This year clumps become loose and and leave bare patches.I suspect LeatherJackets (laid by daddy-long-legs)? but would welcome any comments thanks.

Have you a pic grannysal? Do you get any other animals visiting that might be digging for instance?
I think leatherjackets have been a bigger problem this year with the mild winter and generally odd weather, so it may be just that. Crane flies were a real pest here. A friend's garden was a hideous mess last year with crows and jackdaws digging for them, but a bit of feed and water and regular cutting seemed to solve the issue quite well.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
you can get a nematode treatment for leatherjackets if you want to treat your lawn, it should recover in a month or two.
thanks to you both Fairygirl and treehugger - I dont get any animals apart from blooming cats - so I will give it some nematode.
