Hi I have a shrub growing profusely through the hedge beside my house with very hard green fruits about marble size and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what it is? I have searched on Google without success. Thanks in advance.

Looks like wild damson to me.

Or maybe Greengage? Damson fruit tends to be longer rather than rounded like this.

Greengage generally has bigger clusters of fruit that's why I plumped for damson and it's still early for damson and the fruit starts round.

Could be a Sloe bush, Prunus Spinosa

Hi guys thanks for the replies image i don't think they are sloe's as ive picked those before and the bush was thorny where this one isnt. I have just cut one open & it has a stone in if that helps?

I think it could be a bullace - another sort of wild plum, like a damson but with rounder, sweeter fruit.  They used to grow wild near my granny's house in rural Essex, and she made them into jam and pies.  There's pics on Google...

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

I'm going for bullace too - some ripen to a greeny yellowish colour with a flush of pink, and some ripen black like a damson -some info here

Lovely for pies and tarts, and they make superb wine.
