Willow Tree

I've just been given a potted Willow Tree that stands about 15ft.(no laughing).I am about to re-pot inn fresh soil, but was wondering if I could chop or lop the top off to bush it out,as it's very Spindly...Any advice would be welcome image

Willow can be coppiced so pruning it will make it bushy although it won't last long in a pot. It needs moisture and a good root run.

  • Thanks Dave,I've managed to Lop top off,and spruced it up a bit.Hoping to see it spring to life image

February is a good time to cut willows. Cut to the ground then they will grow again. It will be happier in the ground rather than a pot. But it does depend on the variety. You didn't say.
