I just bought garden weekly and a free packet of corn cockle seeds on the front. I always check online everything I havnt heard of was surprised to see these are poisonous. I emailed the seed company as on their site they don't sell these anymore. I have a dog and wasn't sure if ok to grow these as I am starting a cottage garden.
Same here Lyn ... all the dogs in my life lived to ripe old ages or were euthanised because of accident/injury . I seem to have grown most of those plants in my life and my dogs lived in close proximity to them ..... it's a miracle any of them survived.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Same here Lyn ... the laburnum that hung over the fence onto our driveway ... we children knew not to touch the seeds ... when I was a mum and we moved to a smallholding with a laburnum in the garden my children already knew not to touch the seeds ....... or to eat anything without checking with me first and as you say, to wash their hands when they came in to eat.

I get really p.........d off with the constant panic about dangerous plants and insects. For goodness sake, get a grip, compare with the deaths caused by motor vehicles, sport and the violence of mankind.

First I've heard of these Spanish slugs, where can I get some? I want them to eat the Spanish bluebells I've been failing to get rid of for the last three years.

Blimey, best to concrete the garden over completely if you have a dog or child. ?
Does anyone on here own a dog?. My dog lived to 20, maybe I didn't grow any of those in the garden.

Brilliant Dove, I'm so pleased you've found that. I don't know what it's coming to.
My cousins had a Labutnum tree in their garden, we were told not to eat it and wash our hands before tea.
I don't think parents tell children anything these days, they just rely on everyone else then sue when something goes wrong.

In the sticks near Peterborough
I heard of a zoo that had a cage signposted "The most dangerous animal on earth." It contained nothing but a mirror.
