when is the best time of year to plant strawberries?

I am thinking of planting strawberries and i would like to know when is the best time of year to plant them? Would i be able to plant them now?

    I don't see why not if they've been grown in pots and you water them well til they get established.   Prepare the soil well by adding plenty of well rotted garden compost and/or manure as they are hungry plants.

    If you want to start with rooted runners (eg from a neighbour - free plants!) you're best to plant them in September because they'll establish before winter, and will give you a crop the next summer.  But if you want to be quite sure not to import diseases, and have the money, potted plants are great and can be planted any time.
