Potatoes

Hello all

I planted some potatoes in May and I pulled some up about a month ago but they were tiny so I left the rest to grow. They have flowers on the leaves so are they now ready to pick? Also while they have been left to grow something else as grown on the stems, they look like tomatoes but being a first time veg grower I'm not sure what they are as I know I didn't plant tomatoes. Any suggestions? Thanks

The potato flowers have turned into potato fruit. These are poisonous and best removed and disposed of. They look like tomatoes but are not.

Whether they are ready to dig up depends on what type they are. First earlies need a min of 12 weeks in the ground, maincrop need longer

Try to catch Beechgrove Garden on BBC Scotland (Sky Channel 951) on Wednesday at 7,.30pm or BBC 2 England early Sunday morning.  Jim McColl will be going through your very question
