What is this?

A friend brought me a large log which is very handy to sit on. I've noticed a pile of very fine sawdust underneath which I presume is some sort od beetle that causes that. However, this wasn't on the log last night but was there this morning. Any ideas? It's over an inch in diameter.

    Thankyou. It must grow really fast. do you know what is making the sawdust? I was hoping for a few years of sitting on the log. Might not last long at this rate!!!
