Repotting Cyclamen

madpenguinmadpenguin Posts: 2,543

I have an indoor cyclamen bought last year from Morrisons. It flowered beautifully all through the winter and I let it die back and have a rest a couple of months ago.It has been stuck in a cool dark garage and have just noticed it is starting to shoot out.Would now be about the right time to repot?

Yes - I'd use a loam-based compost and make sure you leave the top of the corm just proud of the compost.

I've done that now. Can't believe how many flowers I had on it from such a small corm!

Only cost £1.25 and thought it would be good for one season but shall see how it does for a second season.

Should I give it a good water now?

Yes, but don't water it again until the top of the compost is dry - they don't need much water until they have lots of leaves and the corms can rot if they get too much.  They are very easy to grow from seed so if you get any seed pods form, wait until they open naturally, pop the seeds on the surface of a pot of damp compost and cover with a thin layer of fine grit.  Takes a couple of years before they start flowering but good fun. image

  • Mine have never died back. They are house plant variety. They lived on a shady windowsill until April then I put them in a shady corner in the garden. There are no flowers but new leaves keep on coming. Is this a problem?
