Raspberry cane question

I've got 2 raspberry plants in pots in my garden. When I bought them they were just one cane. Both now have 3 canes plus the old one that I never cut out. At some point in the next couple of months I want to move them to my allotment. My question is, do I separate them and plant each cane individually or do I just dig a hole and put them in as one plant? I hope that sort of makes sense Thanks
