Fab advice Philippa, I'm just too kind to my plants so am going to dig them up and chuck them in an old compost bag and see what happens LOL. imageimage

How do you overwinter the ones in pots?  The label on mine said to give them frost free protection.

Glad you have got yours now Staceyimage

I think some are hardier than others Lesley. Mine were in a cold GH, very cold but not cold and wet

Thanks nut. I'll try to put it where it has protection from the wet.  Only have a plastic greenhouse unfortunately and daren't leave that out over winter.  It will fly awayimage

I have already planted a dogwood in my problem area and will take cuttings as there is room for two moreimage  Thanks again.

The leaves die back in the winter Lesley, it won't need light. You can put it in the shed or garage

We wrap the pot of agapanthus in bubblewrap and put in in the most sheltered corner of the terrace with the lilies and fig and other precious plants.  They've survived so far - just about to burst into bloom again.for their third summer with us image

I'm just hoping to get it to survive to next year.  Our winters can be harsh but the plant was irresistible.  I'll do my bestimage

Ok ladies, I'm trying very hard nit to get excited until it's confirmed.......but is this the start of a tiny flower on my Agapanthus? I've only ever seen them with the cluster of flowers like on Stacey's?  I'm sure it's coming from one of my plants but it just looks different??

  • Agapanthus like hot climates - they do really well in pots in the south of France with very little attention.  Here I find the ones that are constricted in pots do far better than those left  to spread in the ground.  They are one of the plants that don't care if they don't get watered whilst I am away.  I think you need to avoid cold and wet.

I reckon so OL, mine's got one flower head and the individual flowers are on a little stalk like yours...
