Buddlia. Can you create a cutting for planting?
in Plants
I spotted a beautiful Buddlia on a walk today. A deep, deep purple shade. It was on some (probably) council owned land by the side of the path on a local industrial estate. The place is vastly overgrown with nettles, brambles and those creeping white trumpet-like flowers that seem to choke everything.
Anyway, I was wondering if you can take a cutting from a Buddlia and plant it elsewhere?
If you can, where to cut and where to plant please?
Thanks

You need an unflowered shoot. It's probably a bit late for a wild one, I bet it's in flower. If you keep an eye on it, you could try a hardwood cutting in the winter.
Hello Fidgetbones,
The reason I spotted it was becuase it was in full flower, so it looks like it's too late for this year.
Never mind. Thank you.
I currently have two fine specimens growing in my garden which I took from the parent plant that I had already. I am not the greatest expert but I have some more cuttings I have taken a week ago and keeping my fingers crossed. For me its try it and see if it works.
I tend to take the the shoots that are growing from between the younger branches.
Hope this helps
Denzil, is your icon the 'green man'? I think it is a very interesting symbol.
It is the Green Man. I used it as I thought it very apt for this forum.
