Idenifying a catapiller

    Didn't think it would have been an orange slug - even with a blurry photograph.  

    Perhaps it was a large orange rice crispy imageimageimage


    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    How sure are you that this was a caterpillar Nikki? If you're sure I'll run through my moth files and see what I find

    Not entirely sure had an appearance ie shape and textur of other ones I have seen only this was orange and big.

    Nothing like that in my files, sorry. Plenty of big caterpillars, the hawkmoths, but nothing that colour

    I just had a look through my insect book and a Purple hairstreak caterpillar looks to have a similar image but nowhere near big enough.

    To get to my allotment you have to.go along a path between some fields and the side of a house. It was in the grass on the verge not near ant water. It did not have 'spots' but it did have dips that were a white colour.

    Was looking through the images on google last night the only thing remotely similar is something like a chafer grub pupa, i wonder if it was something which has been affected by a chemical etc image
