time to take cuttings

Hiya

I thought I'd take advantage of the heavy rain yesterday and gather some fresh cutting material from my Hanging baskets and containers to make some 'stock plants' for next year.

Thought it would be a nice dry(ish) greenhouse job, and proactive!

My heated propagator gave me amazing results in spring, so I thought I'd try some more cuttings now. I carefully gathered and prepared over 100 cuttings.

I inspected them today to see if any have wilted (some do sometimes) only to find, with today's change in weather they ALL HAVE! Not only that they've gone black.

I guess the greenhouse temperature of 50C + was too much?

Do you think I should put the propagator somewhere cooler?

Better luck next time.

Too hot Ritchard and yes cooler is better than the oven in the greenhouse.

I find that at this time of year very few cuttings need heat.  Mine are outside, either in the cold frame or against a north-facing fence.

Took cutting of rosemary and fuchsias 5-6 weeks back and i just stick them as the base of my mini greenhouse (plastic cover removed) and they are doing well, i figure they get the warmth but no direct sunlight, and they get watered by default when I water my chillies above image
