I had one die in a pot a couple of winters ago but in the ground fine, on clay! Also seen them in full sun and almost full shade in rain shadow of the house flowering til into Feb!
They grow like weeds here in Scotland. Pity they aren't available in more colours as they're a bit pinky/peachy for me, on the whole. Great for some colour at this time of year and very rabbit proof!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Hi Victoria Sponge, I don't live far from you, I'm in Washington. I was given a clump wrapped in newspaper a couple of years ago And was told they were Kaffir lilies from Africa. So I planted them in a hot dry place in a not so good part of the garden. After that I researched them and discovered they wanted damp conditions. Well all I can say is they flourished and gave a great display of pinky red flowers all winter right through to spring. I did intend to move them but didn't get round to it and they seem reasonable ish. As I really like them I'll leave them be to flower but will move them in the Spring.

I've invested in another two since starting this thread and have put them in differing amounts of sun/drainage to see how they do.
I was excited last week to find they all have a pudgy flower spike appearing. Great stuff!
I'm popping in the GC today and will have my eyes open for some more ...Jennifer is a lovely pale pink. Unlike Fairy, i LOVE all the pinks
