Well, i would, but i am one of those that always plants too close anyway! Im very pleased with kailaan which ive tried for the first time this year, ive been telling everyone about it, and it dosent need to be spaced too far apart which is useful, you could also try some of the other oriental veg as they grow very quickly.

As far as im concerned, the more ground you can take up for crops, the less there is for weeds!

Im sure some will disagree, but thats my opinion image

Thanks Bekkie, don't want to crowd but I hate to waste space too, plus under my fleece no slugs etc to destroy,

here is spacing (if can see)

I don't think there is really room there, looking at my carrots, beetroot and spinach which are a lot bigger something will be crowded out.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Close spacings of salad leaves tend to get botrytis too, they need good air flow

It is called I think a catch crop when you grow something fast growing around something slow growing; it is normal veg gardening practice. image

Why not just try a little between a couple of things? If it gets too big you just pull it out image

Love your fleece frame, much better than mine image

I might give it a try elsewhere too, I just fear slug damage outside the fleece protection. I am tempted to next year build a frame for other beds too, but this time I wont do a teepee style i will do a square, otherwise the fleece lays on the plants on edge and i don't want to cause damage,
