I want to take some cuttings but cant find a shoot without a flower on it, can i try with one just about to flower ?

If you try a cutting from a flowering stem, all the energy is going into flower production. If you look further down the stems, there will be non flowering side stems there, try those instead, and pinch out the tips, this stimulates root production.
As one who isn't good with cuttings I'd be waiting til the end of the season and doing hardwood cuttings

I read the other day on one of Monty's reply's to taking buddleia cuttings. He said take a shoot 1-2 ft long and cut it into 6" cuttings, remove all but two leaves from each bit and reduce the leaves by half. I will take another look at it tomorrow.
