Is this normal for Runner Beans?
I'm growing Runner Beans for the first time and I've noticed the bean pods are different, there is a variety of plain green, red speck and purple speck bean pods. Is this normal? I don't know the species as I bought them from an allotment and it just said 'Runner Beans' on the label.

you could have a mixed packet . sure someone on here will put you right .
Some varieties of beans have coloured or speckled pods, and if your seeds were ones saved by an allotmenteer from his crop then they are likely to have been cross-pollinated with various varieties - it doesn't mean that there'll be anything wrong with them - you'll probably get some interesting beans

Thank you guys!
That's a relief, good to know that they should be safe to eat
I was given some SAVED red , black and green bean seeds along with borlotti and I have mixed them all up and sown them at the base of wig wams and the different colour flowers are attractive
Its what they taste like that counts
The ones i got from Mr Fothergills called Mergoles did not germinate at all and also their parsnips and carrots
Snap Newboy, very poor germination rates on my parsnips this year, I think there have been a couple of threads about that.
I am having the first of my green beans for tea tonight
