My indigo was always very sparse. Long twiggy stems with little foliage and just a few leaves and flowers at the top. Grew to 4-5ft It wasn't in the right place, it was too big to move, so it's gone.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
I think it is an indigo - thank you all! It's in a sunny spot which is apparently what they like. The leaves / flowers are happy enough, it's just the long twiggy stems which make it seem a big sparse. I'm filling in around it with lots of other things so hopefully it won't matter next year.
Susie you're right - it's a match. Thank you! Mine is planted in a sunny position but looks quite sparse whereas it should be more bushy. Any tips on feeding or pruning? it isn't looking as it should which is a shame as most things are pretty happy in my garden; the soil is good and I'm near the coast.

Ooh maybe an indigofera himalayensis? Looks very similar to that! What do we think?
Could well be it! Do the leaves match?

Hi Indi,
I am not sure it is Indigofera as the flowers of these seem to hang more like Wisteria and the leaves are more oval than the ones in your picture.
Have a look at Polygala Myrtifolia also know as the Sweet Pea Bush.
