strawberry virus

I think I have strawberry virus on my 5 year old plants. I was given new runners and put them on a different site this year. Now a couple of them seem to be suffering. Symptoms' are small woody mis shapen fruits. Can the virus spread in the air?

Counsel of perfection is to replace strawberry plants after they have cropped three times for this very reason. They are best grown as a rotation; propagation of new plants every year and discard the oldest.

Your new plants may have a virus. Plants you buy commercially should be free of it.

The virus is usually spread by aphids. Planting a new bed next to infected plants is likely to lead to the virus spreading.

Clear the old plants out and buy new virus free certified plants from a reputable supplier.

Agreed.  Start a new bed at the other end of the garden (lots of compost) and burn all the infected plants and those nearby.  Cruel to be kind and all that.
