cottage garden

susie61susie61 Posts: 56

Hi again, sorry to keep asking questions. I'm trying to make a cottage garden, I love all the old favourites but especially pinks, large and small, the really scented ones. I have some in pots but they don't perform very well. I have tried them directly in the garden but again with sketchy results. I really love these flowers, can anyone tell me the best growing conditions for them. Thanks again

Susie - they like full sun and a well drained soil.  They are generally quite easy to grow.

The perfume is lovely so I agree with your choice.  Have you got a photo you can post on here so it will give us an idea what your problem is.

Thanks for your replies Verdun and Forester I will try to post a picture tomorrow, my phone won't connect to my computer so my daughter takes pics on her phone for me.From what you both say I think it must be the soil. The ones in pots are in bought compost which is probably not right, and the garden ones possibly don't get enough sun. When can I move them from their pots, they are in bud now.

Thanks Verdun, I shall sort them all out this week, maybe add grit for the drainage and take some cuttings and hope for the best 'cos they are lovely flowers. Thanks again for your help. I only have a small garden and want to put as much in as I can so definitely do the cuttings.
