Yes, it'll encourage more flowers.  Just cut back to the next strong set of leaves.

ok lyn whats best to kill off red beatles  on orchids

I don't get red beetles on orchids, but I do get them on my lilies - could your plants be lilies too?

I squidge the red lily beetles and use kitchen roll to wipe off their eggs and larvae which are underneath the leaves.

I don't use pesticides in my garden as they also kill the ladybirds, bees and other pollinating insects.

    The larvae are horrible image

These are somewhat cleaned up.  They cover themselves in droppings, which disguises them from birds - and gardeners.

Thete have no predators in this country and anything that kills them will also kill ladybirds, ground beetles and probably bees etc, so we have to squash them by hand.

Bright red lily beetles are the WORST pest in the garden.  I confess I use spray on my lollies even though I don't use it on other things... I've just not found any other way of dealing with them. They are vile!
