Hydrangea flower heads

My hydrangea flower heads are coming to an end turning pale and not at their best. Do I need to dead head them or leave on the stem? Thanks.

I leave them on, they turn wonderful colours as they fade into the autumn - then in the winter they protect the buds beneath them from the frost.  I remove them in the spring. image

Lots of people reccomend leaving them on, for winter protection. I cut them for drying to use in christmas decs image
