Can i uncover carrots yet?

Hi, Does anyone know if its safe to uncover my carrots and parsnips? Someone told me once they're established they're 'safe' from carrot fly. But he wasn't sure if it was an old wives tale. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

How essential is it in a garden not close to any allotments?

Carrot fly are attracted by the smell when you thin them, if you've thinned them already and they are spaced correctly, then leave for a few weeks then earth them up and then you can remove the fleece.

I have worse trouble with carrot fly in the garden then i ever did at the allotment! Mine are under fleece, in a pot on the corner of my raised bed!

I went for years untroubled by carrot fly and no-one near me seems to grow any veg, but since it first appeared it has been an absolute menace, so I'd say better safe than sorry snowathlete!  Use horticultural fleece - it's very inexpensive eg:

(no connection - just a random google result)

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Thanks guys, think ill keep it on. I haven't thinned them, planted in March so maybe they'll be too crowded. I guess I'll find out in a couple of months or so.
