how to get rid of wasp nest?

Hi everyone, I have a wasp nest in my compost bin. They only appeared yesterday. We have a small garden so they are taking over. We have small children and two cats which are all trying to get out into the garden. Our windows are shut and beginning to get to hot in our house.

Has anyone got rid of a nest by themselves? Any advise please? We would be so grateful.

We did knock over the compost bin and ran for our lies (me & my husband) . they are still thereimage(

If you tip it out they'll disperse. Or you can get wasp nest killer from GC etc. Use it at night when they're asleep

Won't be able to tip it out. It is covered with wasps. Of to buy some wasp nest killer now. Let's hope we can get close enough to get them. Thanks for the replies

As Nut said, do it at night when they should all be asleep in the nest.

From you description it doesn't sound quite right for a wasp nest - in my experience they usually go in and out fairly quietly rather than swarming over something - you are sure they're wasps and not honey bees?

Sounds like honey bees - they just 'appear' when they have swarmed. Wasps build a nest and it takes some time.

  • Definitely make sure that it is wasps before killing them.

We are out in the garden every day so would have notice them before. They were swarming all over it at first. Then carmed down about 2pm. Thinking they are wasp we set the water hose on them and then knocked it over. That's when they started swarming again. Just went out there and there is only a few flying around but sure there is loads inside. Just can't get to see inside it. I know I can't kill honey bees, we need them to live. But what do I do if they are?  Now I'm confusedimage

Going to watch the link now to get a better understanding
