Oriental Poppies
Hi everyone.
I am a new poster to this forum although regularly read the posts here and used to belong to the old BBC forum.
David K pleased to see you are keeping the Sweet Pea thread going, lots of great advice.
Anyway, just interested to know if anyone has had any problems with their oriental poppies this year. I have a small collection of around 12 varieties which have been in the garden for around 6 years and have performed wonderfully until this year. They all seem to have disappeared without even putting up any leaf growth. The only ones that have survived are some plain orange ones I grew from seed some years ago. I have been in touch with a specialist nursery and it would seem that the growers in Holland have also had problems with their crop this year.
I am in the South of England and just wondered if any one else has had problems.

I just posted in the Problems forum (June 2015) about oriental poppies dying out because of a new disease. If anyone finds out anything more about this disease, please post it somewhere in the forums, as information seems hard to come by.
I only have a few varieties, but mine are all fine. Patty's Plum has been her best ever this year.
There is an article in the week before lasts telegraph gardening section. i posted a picture of it on another thread - might be worth seeing if it is on line. It wasn't last week. It was written by Val Bourne. If you find the other thread there is a phone number you can call to speak to a lady who is actually studying the problem.
I've Googled Val Bourne and the Telegraph and can't find the article anywhere.
I am in Cornwall and all my poppies have totally disappeared. ...I'm very sad as they originally came from my grandmother who died about 30 yrs ago. Very strange... at first I thought it was vine weavil but on reading your storys then perhaps not.
