Broad beans

jad1jad1 Posts: 130

Lots of beans this year which has come all at once. I have decided to freeze them

Any answers please to whether i should blanch them or not.

Lots of rain in north cornwall at the moment. Good it will fill the water butts up,so hard with watering cans from the outside tap.

I blanch them for about a minute then plunge into iced water - cool - drain - dry on tea towel and freeze.

You normally blanch them for a 2 mins or less then freeze on a tray. It's easier to skin the beans after blanching as well. Not everybody skins them, but I find they taste better without the skin.

Many thanks for that. All done and drying on the trays

I find they keep much better if I blanch them - but if I've got a few and I'm going to use them in a week or so I'll sometimes just pop them in a bag and straight into the freezer - but they're never quite as good as when I blanch them.

Didn't have room to grow them this year - OH grew some garlic in the empty patch last autumn - very good garlic but I'm envious of your beans - I've bought some frozen ones image

I blanch as well, then leave till they are cold and skin them then open freeze.
