Grape vine

I bought a grapevine from Hampton Court Flower Show some ten years ago. It grows prolifically, south west facing, chalk soil (Brighton) and is approx ten years old - it has NEVER produced a single grape! Is there anything I can do to encourage it or should I just replace it. Thank you.

Hi, Anne, sorry this is going to be a stupid question, have you pruned it? I dont know a huge amount about grapes but do grow two vines image

Do you know the name of the variety?

I wonder if your soil is low in flower/ fruit nutrients, have you tried tomato food on it? image
  • It's had food, miracle gro mostly.

I pruned it at the wrong time about six years ago and it bled sap, I had to tape the wound to stop it dripping. Could this have damaged it?

Im sure Dove will answer this one properly, but they are the same as us, it can take a long time to recover from a bad injury image

Hmmm, we had grape vines on the farmhouse where I grew up many years ago, but back then pruning was pretty hit and miss, but they always fruited.

Now I've got a newly planted vine in this garden and I'm very much on a learning curve, getting my information from  John Cushnie's 'How to Prune' and this website http://www.readsnursery.co.uk/grapevine-care/

Hope that's of some help image
