Er sorry, scoop not scope! Re tub, yes trick I heard about on the forum.  When temp is hotter than the water it warms up, hence reducing the amount of heat in the greenhouse. (Ie energy goes to heating the water rather then air) when temp is colder than the water, the water cools down ie releases heat into the greenhouse.

Thought I'd give it a go.  I'll be using the greenhouse to help new perennial sowing through the winter- for which I'm told I need an unheated greenhouse, and also to overwinter tender plants- for which I need to heat to frost free.  The former is my priority so keeping it unheated but doing what I can for the tender stuff. Eg the black tub trick, storing higher up in greenhouse, polystyrene, & fleece when needed.

Well everyone i too got a new greenhouse this year, just put it up 2 weeks ago. Fortunately i planted some things early on & kept them in the kitchen window, some of the stuff i planted a little later but not too late so am a little behind with some plants but my greenhouse is full & things are still shooting up. I stumbled in to greenhouse gardening this year & i have to say i love spending time in there. I hope all you greenhouse newbies enjoy it as much as i do. Ahh, like minded people, wonderful.

    Look up spidermite prevention.

I think it's just soapy water spray that will do it. The first things I grew in my new greenhouse were chinese lanterns. I had 40 of them, beautiful, but then all got covered in spidermite. I could have prevented it easily, but nobody warned me! image

Mel I think if you keep the GH humid rather than arid, it puts the spider mite off, and then you would avoid having to spray at it directly.  Just keep things a bit damp in there.  Waz, don't worry, the radio and the tea were in March/April - I couldn't spend long in there at the moment, and the hosing is now.  But I take your point about hosing and electricals!!
