Plant propagation
I'm wondering whether now might be a good time to propagate my campanula as it is looking so nice at the moment, I'd like to get a few more in the garden. If so how do I go about doing it ? A friend said when they take cuttings they put them in water for a week before doing rooting hormone and then putting them in a pot.
Also a friend has asked whether she can take cuttings from a philadelphus Belle Etoile. Would we do a similar thing with that one ? Also my philadelphus is a couple of years old now, so not huge, would i be wanting to take softwood cuttings ?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thank you x

It is campanula lactiflora 'Pritchards Variety
I'm currently trying to grow another type of campanula from seed, but the one above is so vibrant i love it.
I'd divide the campanula in the autumn or spring.
and hard wood cuttings from the philadelphus. at leaf-drop
But that's just what I do, others might do differently
In the sticks near Peterborough
As for things like philadelphus, ive not had huge success with shrubs-yet, so tend to layer them which works well
Hope you get on well
Philadelphus, I would take semi ripe cuttings now. A really strong new shoot should just be at the right stage. Up to 6 inch long, cut below a leaf joint, dip in hormone rooting powder or gel, stick 4 in the corners of a 3 inch sq pot of gritty compost. Cover with plastic bag or stand in a propagator tray with cover on. You will not need heat. They should root by the end of summer and I would pot on when they start with new leaves in spring.
thank you, will look at these and figure out how best to progress.
