  • Sorry to disagree but the tree is not like my campestres. Shape of leaf is similar but it is too much like a cultivated tree than a wild specimen. Leaves too large and luxurious?

I don't think it's campestre either, looks like common sycamore to me.

Could be sycamore. they self seed everywhere.  It's not field maple, the leaves are way too big.  I'll go get a pic of mine.

I have small twigs sticking out of the main trunk of some of my A campestres and they look just like that and are much bigger than those on the rest of the tree.

This is the Acer Campestre in our garden, it has wobbly edges and red leaf stems.

Probably it is field maple if it's a more mature tree tbh I don't think it matters, maple, sycamore and acer are all the same family aren't they?  Definitely not fig as the leaves and stems are not fleshy enough.

Not a fig, no. My fig thought lasted about 2 secondsimage

I'll see if I can get a pic of the leaves on my field maple, but it's all thrashing around out there at the moment

  • I thought there was consensus that the fern was probably bracken, and that if there was a doubt it still made sense to remove it from a school garden. In addition there is a debate about whether a picture of a tree is an acer campestre, a much less problematic debate among friends. I personally, have changed my mind several times on the tree. But not on the fern eradication.

If you look at the original post Mike there were 3 or 4 plants to ID
