powdery mildew on polemonium

hi,

I have put my polemonium in and it gets all afternoon sun but has a large amount of powdery mildew on it. should i be worried about this spreading to surrounding plants? how can i get rid of it? so far, i have cut of the "worst" foliage with it on but i'm wondering if i need to be a bit harsher and cut right back. hopefully someone will tell me i can do this at the end of the summer so i can still enjoy the flowers for now image

  • thanks for the informative response. although now i'm slightly panicked because i didnt clean the blades between chops and i have used the secateurs since on my camellia (following your advice from my other thread actually by snipping out the top of it).

i have also just checked and concerned its spread to neighbouring delphiniums (though not confirmed if thats what it is yet as very mild version if it is).

now tempted to just pull the polemonium out and jot it down to experience (This plant showed signed of powdery mildew when purchased at knock down price but i assumed it was some kind of plant food dried on or something)

Some things are very prone to mildew and polemonium is one of them.

Spores are everywhere, don't worry about the secateurs. As Edd says it doesn't need water. In fact I associated with very dry conditions.

I stopped growing the blue ones because they always looked so bad. The yellow species don't seem to suffer

  • i'm tempted to cut right back, apply some fungicide, feed and water well as per the advice. i'd rather be brash and get rid and have a healthy plant next year i think

  • I just cut mine to the base and sprayed with a fungicide. I didn't water because I thought it would dilute the fungicide. Should I water well tomorrow or leave it a bit longer?
  • hi all,

update on this, did the chop, feed, water + fungicide. new mildew free shoots are coming through image
