clematis

Hi my clematis, which has yet to flower, has got white marks on the leaves.  Has anyone got any ideas as to what it could be, also what to do about it?

To me it looks like something has been splashed on the leaves such as watered down greenhouse paint

Just a thought - the trellis behind the clematis - is that paint water soluble and have you had some heavy rain recently?

I thought of that, wondered if it could have been paint splashes but it rubs off and is dry and powdery.  The trellis was painted years ago and the clematis went in this year, anyway will check this out, thanks.

Thanks will try that, should have done that before but the plant doesn't look too healthy overall so I have been wondering, as well as the white marks,  if its in the wrong place or watering it too much too little!!  Thanks for the advice.
