Thinning out and transplanting annual flower seedlings

Has anyone experience of thinning out and transplanting love in a mist and eschscholzia (Californian poppy) seedlings?  This year was my first attempt at direct sowing, so I followed Monty's advice and popped them into the flowing lines that I had drawn in the flower bed.  However, they are quite big now and are very close together.  Any advice gratefully received!

You can thin them out but transplanting when they're getting quite big is tricky. They wilt. Worth a try though if you're thinning anyway.

Ive struggled with this in the past, just try and take as much soil with them as possible to avoid root disturbance and keep the soil moist to wet for at least a few days. Interested to see how it goes, please post with the results image

If we could learn to sow them more thinly it would helpimage
