Courgettes
in Fruit & veg
My courgette plants look healthy and are flowering well. However, lots of the fruits are rotting at the end when only finger sized. What is wrong and is there anything I can do?

Hi Chrissie, I posted a thread about this a couple of weeks ago. Apparently it is quite common early in the season when they don't get pollinated properly. But when the fruit gets a couple of inches long, if the flower hasn't fallen off itself then remove it, I'm finding that helps. I've had about 10 courgettes off mine up to now but still have quite a few that I'm losing.
Are yours outside? I just wondered as I had some I the greenhouse and was told to move them outside and I have they seem a lot happier
I'm not an expert, like I said it my first year growing them, and someone else may be along soon to give you more/better advice.

Try this link too Chrissie, to the other thread I started, it may help
I GREW THEM IN THE GREEN HOUSE LAST YEAR AND THERE WAS A LOT LESS ROTTING . I GREW THEM UP A STRING WHICH MAY HAVE HELPED
I agree Welshonion. I have grown mine in two very large pots this year because we always get far too many but even now we are finding it hard to keep up with them. Any good courgette recipes anyone?
I like them sliced quite thin and deep fried in a light tempura type batter - first had them like that in an Italian restaurant and have made them at home a few times since.
guess what we've got for lunch today, thank you people
First courgettes of the year pan fried with a little garlic and olive oil.
second courgettes Tempura and some sweet chilli dip or tzatziki.
Rest of them in everything and everything.
On the subject of courgettes my green and yellow ones are all at different stages (staggered planting) and doing good some with fruit some about to.
But my earliest planted patti pan squash (yellow ones) are huge plants massive leaves and no fruit to show for it has anybody else any experience with these ?
