Eucalyptus tree advice

Hi There,

I need some general advice that I was hoping someone could help with

I ordered a small eucalyptus tree from ebay, and when it arrived it looked fine but has since gone downhill. The leave are almost all turning brown. But the shoots at the end are still green. Does anyone have any recommendations to helping this plant survive. The seller has offered to send me a new one but I would rather get this one to survive. I have placed it in a semi shaded location and given it a small amount of diluted tomato feed, but it doesn't seem to have had an effect. Any help would be great.

Thank you

J

Is it in a pot or in the ground? What were its roots like when it arrived, did you tease them out before planting? Is it getting enough water? Or too much?

    Hi There,

It was in a small pot so I transferred to a much larger one. I was very careful when removing it not to damage the roots. I gave it one big soak when transferring out, then have watered it a little every other day, only because of the hot weather

Have a read of this and see if it helps http://grafton-nursery.co.uk/Growing-Eucalyptus-in-Patio-Pots.htm

I've never grown eucalyptus but I wouldn't think that tomato feed is suitable as it is formulated to encourage flowering and fruiting.

How long is it since you've had it?

I have had it for about 2 weeks. The supplier said to water it with some feed to liven it up. He suggested it may have dried out during transport. Im hoping the green buds at the end of a couple of the branches suggest it will make it.

Fingers crossed James image  Don't overwater it - after all, in the wild it copes with pretty dry conditions.

Thank you for the help Dovefromabove

I will move it into full sun straight away. I have planted it in a large pot just to get it settled. But will plant out to have free renege soon. Just want the little guy to get back to full health.

I'd get it in the ground asap. The larger they are the more difficult it is to get them root firm when you do plant them out. The smaller the better to establish well.
