Bamboo problem

I have a well established clump forming bamboo It has golden stems. This year the new canes are doing very well -up to 12 ft but the leaves are not formig, only a few spiky bits where there should be leaves. This has happened before and I just cut out the canes.. Does anyone know the reason?

    Thanks for the reply but I suspect that waiting is not the answer.  However I  will be patient and see what happens.
