Geranium ID and sunflower woe

I sowed some hardy geranium seeds, I know I planted them too late in the season and most didn't germinate (I collected and stored what I could), however after having left them in the cool shade a few have now germinated, but, one (seemingly trailing) seedling I can't tell what it is, is it even a geranium?!

Also, my sunflower leaves are being eaten almost by the hour but I cannot see anything on them at all that could be eating them! There is a small amount of slug trail on a couple of the leaves but most are slime free. What else could it be and is there any way to stop it? Would something like a washing up liquid/garlic spray combo help?

Thanks!

Those 2 little seed leaves are geranium

The trailing one isn't. What else have you sown?

Slugs don't always leave a visible trail and some slugs are very small so you don't see the trail easily

Ooh exciting! I only sowed geranium seeds in this tray so who knows what it is lol I'll keep it going...

A long shot but is there anything that can be done to stop slugs on sunflowers?

Like my Calendula that 'popped up' on my veg patch border where I had sown my Candytuft, really quite pleased with that image

My slugs have only allowed one of my sunflowers to survive, despite my having spoken to them severely.image  However this on remaining sunflower seems to know that the reputation of all sunflowers is on its shoulders - it's turning into the sturdiest looking sunflower I've ever grown image

I'll try that Pauline, how is your sunflower doing with this method?

Dovefromabove, yes I'm hoping I'll get at least one, the last time I tried they didn't even get past tiny seedling stage ???? They are in full sun, what's the best feed to give them?

Mine isn't getting anything other than the Fish Blood & Bone and manure that was applied to that area earlier in the spring.

  • Last year several sunflowers appeared we think from seed dropped by birds. They grew fantastically & were much admired. This year I sowed seed from last years flowers. I must have planted 40 fairly large plants at various times this year, some under bottles some with coffee grinds, some with organic pellets. I don't think any have survived- how frustrating is that and how did last years survive completly by themselves when I was thinking I have far fewer slugs this year ?!
