Hello all,

Im new to this site and wanted a little bit of help from all you experts...

I have recently moved and acquired a greenhouse. I have potted lots of seeds, Jalepeno, chilli, tomato and pepper etc but I didn't label any of them.... So now I have a problem. I don't know what one particular plant is and wondered if you guys would know. Thanks in advance....

    Welcome to the madhouse.

As far as I know it's not possible to identify differernt varieties of peppers at the seedling stage.  The tomatoes are different, however, and you'll be able to tell when their true leaves appear, which will only be a day or three.

It's a bit late in the year for them to be at the seedling stage but you'll probably get a small crop this year.  I believe (although I have no direct experience of this yet) that chillies are perennial if you keep them in the greenhouse so you might get more next year.  February is the best time to sow tomatoes and peppers in the greenhouse, provided it's frost-free. (It looks like a conservatory attached to the house so you should have no problems there).

What are you going to do with that sunflower when it reaches the roof?!

  • Thanks Steve...

I was trying to identify the plant in the pot as I haven't planted a sunflower but people are saying its a sunflower.... bizarre... so you've confirmed it image my toms and chillis are coming on nicely in the greenhouse (toms about 2.5foot but not actual toms yet)

Looks like sunflower, are the leaves bristly?

  • not especially but I have checked google and looks very much like a Sunflower. I didn't plant any so cant understand why ha. At least my little boy will be happy.
