    Hi Andy and welcomeimage

To post a photo just click on the green tree icon on the toolbar above where yu type your posts and follow instructions.  It can take a little while to upload.  It doesn't work from a mobile phone unfortunately.

Look forward to seeing photos of your garden as it developsimage

  • Hi Lesley. I think I might just about get my head around that - thanks for the info. I use Photobucket for my fishing forum so hopefully it's a similar process.

No photos yet as we've not actually 'moved in' but rest assured some will follow in due course.

There are lots of roses which are climbing, but will only get to around 10ft, not sure how far you want this rose to climb up the gable, i can reccomend highfield and malvern hills, both are very tough and repeat flower, malvern hills has small double lemon flowers while highfield has larger more yellow flowers, you really are spoiled for choice for a climber.

If you are looking for something to really cover the gable, it will have to be a rambler, in general, these look more like wild roses and are very vigorous and healthy, i grow alberic barbier which is cream and has medium sized flowers, this dosent repeat but is a joy while it is flowering. I also grow Mary Wallace which has reletively large pink semi double flowers, very beautiful, but does not repeat. Ive mentioned the ones i grow as they are very tough and have had little or no care. Ramblers grow to around 20ft.

I think with all the choice around, you need to maybe choose a colour and a final size, does your other half have a favorite colour? image

For climbing roses, have a look at the search facility on this website http://www.classicroses.co.uk/  - do a search on your requirements and have a look and see what's available image

  • Thanks all.

The 10' climber sounds about right. Not really wanting to cover the gable as such - just break it up a little. That's something major I have learned - you get "climbers" and "ramblers".

Er indoors doesn't have a preference on colour but I suspect white-ish and with at least a bit of a fragrance to it.

The "repeat flowerer" sounds like a good deal.

Dove - thanks for the link. I will digest in due course.

Anyone any thoughts about the trellis 'screen' options ?

Trellis 1.5mt high - 4-5 mts long. Not too dense a foliage and a some pretty flowers - must be able to live / thrive in a planter. South facing.

Thanks everybody - finding this site has been such a help.
