Overgrown grape

Hi all, i planted two grape vines against the fence (next to the path) in the front garden a few years ago, i confess they have never been pruned properly. They are huge now, and almost stopping access to the path. Can i hard prune? How do i do it? When should i do it? Would it be better to try and untangle them and somehow tie them along the fence? New growth can be cut back now. If you want to cut back hard into old wood, wait until October,November,or December.

Rhs has good advice on pruning for fruit.
