Beginner gardener need advice

Evening everyone, I'm very new to gardening but after a couple of years of planting and some success I want to plant a lilac tree. When is the best time to plant it, and also would it flower next year? And this might sound really daft but can they grow really big and if so should I consider a dwarf version? (If such a thing exists). Phew, hope that makes sense. All advice and tips gratefully received

I bought a dwarf version many years ago. It lived happily in a pot for a while and then I put it in the garden. It is about 6 feet tall now and flowers well every year. Sorry but I don't remember when it was planted!

Hi Helen, if you buy a potted one, you can plant it now, at this tome of year i would soak the planting hole aswell as really watering well everyday until established, if you buy a bare root, that shouldnt arrive til autumn which is when you plant it.

They normal ones can be extremely unruly, i personally dont mind, but a dwarf is probably the most sensible option image
